TurtleBot3 Burger: a comprehensive mobile platform

The TurtleBot3 Burger includes all the Burger components you’ll need to get rapidly started with the creation of a mobile robot:

  • 1 chassis
  • 2 Dynamixel X-series servos (1 in each wheel)
  • 1 Open Source control board (OpenCR ARM Cortex-M7, programmable with the Arduino IDE)
  • 1 embedded PC (the Raspberry Pi 3 for the Burger version)
  • Sensors for navigation (3-axis gyroscope, accelerometer and magnetometer)
  • LiDAR LDS-02
  • 1 battery

The set can be fully programmed using Open Source and includes software operating under an Apache 2.0 licence. The robot can also be fully operated with OpenCR, which means that you can 3D print its parts or order them off-the-shelf. The idea is to turn the TurtleBot3 into the ideal educational robot, accessible to all users and at all budgets.

There is another version of the Turtlebot3: the Turtlebot3 Waffle , discover the differences between the 2 robots below:

TurtleBot3: an educational robot to scale up

The advantage of the TurtleBot3 (Burger or Waffle version) is that it offers endless evolution opportunities. For instance, you can tap into the full range of Robotis sensors to make your robot even smarter and more interactive. TurtleBot3 already includes an inertial measurement unit featuring the Burger material required for navigational efficiency, and can be connected to various sensors (movement, temperature, colour, contact, and so on).

If you want to learn ROS, advanced robotics and computer science concepts, then Turtlebot3 is a great choice! ROS is a meta-operating system, something between an operating system and middleware. ROS is becoming increasingly popular with research labs, startups, but also large companies.

You can also transform its mechanical structure radically to turn it into a motorbike or a car, or add a trailer... Simply give free rein to your imagination!

The robot comes in a compact and practical cardboax briefcase. Everything you need to get the robot working is in the box, including the battery, battery charger, tools, screws and nuts, instructions... I've been able to use it with ROS Melodic Morenia in Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic Beaver (requires some more work), even though the Turtlebot3 was developed for ROS Kinetic Kame (not supported in Ubuntu Bionic)
